3 INSTA WORTHY "SECRET" COFFEE HANGOUTS IN BALI

Updated: Feb 8, 2018

Let's be perfectly honest- whether the purpose of your Bali trip is to climb Mount Batur at sunrise or drink your weight in $2 Bintangs, most modern humans share a common love for Instagram. Another thing that most (sane) people share is a love (or even need) for coffee.

You may not know this, but Bali has got an abdundance of high quality coffee, coffee shops, and top notch baristas. These are three spots that I frequented on my last trip. They are all off the beaten path- both figuratively and literally speaking!

This spot will be stuck in my mind forever. It is a gorgeous (and very popular) cafe in Seminyak, Bali, but is hidden as it's slightly difficult to find- it doesn't have a storefront on the main strip. They've got three rooms- one is more cafe style, the other has a more traditonal "bar" with restaurant style tables, and the other is called the "pink" room- adorned with pink floral wallpaper, tropical plants, and unique wooden furniture. My first memory of Revolver is how darn friendly their staff are. I came in looking to grab a coffee to go, and the staff convinced me to hang out and sip my espresso at the bar. Every staff member in my vicinity made sure to have a chat with me and learn my name. I don't know about you, but in Canada, people are friendly, but not to this extent. Oh yeah- and the coffee!- some of the best I've ever had in my life. Also, they've got a great little retail souvenir shop where they sell t-shirts and the like. I bought one and wear it frequently, they've got such a unique logo and style, I'm constantly getting compliments on my "Revolver" t-shirt. I think it makes me look hardcore- people at home don't know that "Revolver" is just a coffee shop.

Oh, Crate, let me count the ways... I'll go into deeper details about Crate in a post coming soon, but MAN, you must see this place. All the food is on point (obviously- I mean look at THEIR Instagram) but Crate is also an excellent spot to grab a coffee (and get a prime photo while you're at it). They've got the most beautiful mix ascetically of concrete, plush couches, and even art and fashion displays. I'd expect nothing less than great at Crate (see what I did there) and their coffee does not fail to disappoint. My favourite is their blended iced coffee, which comes in a clear glass and is blended so thick it piles high over the rim of the glass. ALSO- all of their cold drinks come stock with a bamboo straw. They know what they're doing, guys. Crate's not necessarily a secret, particularly within the Canggu community, however it IS off the main road, so you need to have an idea of where you're going to actually get there. Thank goodness I gave you this tip, or else you might not know to go looking for it!

Looking out from Crate

I will always shamelessly plug the Farm Hostel. Not because I'm affiliated with them in any way (hey farm, wanna be friends?) but because I had the most incredible experience staying with them. Whether you're a guest at the hostel or not, I'd definitely reccomend checking out their cafe. It overlooks their two beautiful blue pools surrounded by luscious greenery. Not to mention, the hostel is tucked away in the middle of some of Canggu's most gorgeous rice fields. Also, their coffee is top notch, and the baristas are extremely talented. Also, they offer soy and COCONUT- which I was super jazzed about, 'cause coconut lattes are one of my favourite things on the planet. And yes, they do it WAY better than Starbucks. It's about a 5 minute walk off of the main road along the ricefields, which is why I'd classify it as "secret," along with the fact that they're known for being a hostel not a cafe.

Latte art at the Farm. They made a sad bear because it was my last day! Aww!

I hope these tips help you, and your 'gram game in Bali.

Have a blast you guys! I'm there in spirit!
