4 REASONS WHY I LOVE CANGGU

Updated: Feb 9, 2018

Canggu is the ulimate destination in Bali, if you ask me. It's a small and trendy surfer town on the southwest coast of the island. It's got something for everyone: unique shopping, great beaches for surfing or relaxing, amazing restaurants, hip bars, cool tattoo shops, live music, huge rice feilds, gorgeous villas, and proximity to the airport and other desinations like Kuta, Uluwatu, and Ubud.

1. It suits all levels of budgets

From food, to accomodation, to activities, there is a huge span in affordability vs. spendiness.

There are a few very fany hotels, along with many beautiful smaller guesthouses and hostels.

There are excellent warungs with very afforable and delicious food, and a plethora of more westernized and trendy health focused restaurants like The Shady Shack and Cafe Organic.

Local "warung" food. Vegetarians rejoice!

Canngu is also peppered with spas; some smaller spots offering one hour massages for litterally $5 CAD, to swankier ones (Goldust!!!) where you can get an amazing professional massage for only $20.

I love that in Canggu, even if you're on a smaller budget, you can still have an amazing time and live the lavish life. You can head to one of the beachfront clubs for sunset (check out La Brisa Bali or The Lawn) you can order a $3 bintang lager or whole coconut, and be set to enjoy paradise in luxury without breaking the bank.

Sunset at the lawn accompanied by covers of Bon Iver. I. Know.

2. It's got an amazing vibe

You might think that sounds kind of dumb, until you get there- you'll be like "Wow- she was right." Canggu has got a fun loving, easy, and youthful air to it. Many of us at The Farm Hostel would joke that we had gotten "stuck in the 'gu" as we loved it so much we would keep coming back throughout our time in Bali, treating it as our home base (I came back a total of 3 times!)

Not only does Canggu have everything that a Bali-goer would want, and more, it is also a fairly small town, lending it a very cozy feeling. Canngu feels like home to me, and many others I've met. It almost feels like you're in on this wonderful secret with everyone you're surrounded by in Canggu, even if you're complete strangers.

The Farm Hostel. RIGHT?!

3. There is so much to DO

I find Canggu to be a real "choose your own adventure" type of town. If you want to have a chilled out day and do absolutely NOTHING by the pool or ocean, it is the perfect spot to do it (Canggu is litterally wrapped by three beaches). If you want to have an action filled day with surfing, scooters, and drinks, it is also the ultimate spot for all of these things. You are also in close proximity to the famous Tannah Lot temple (a 20 minute scoot away). Day or evening outings are extremely easy from Canggu, particularly to visit the happening nightlife in Kuta and Seminyak, so if you want to soak up the chilled out vibes of Canggu by day, and live up your bali rooftop party dreams by night at Sky Garden, all the power to you.

4. It's honestly just cool

There are a lot of things I experienced there that were so unique and made me think "only in Canggu"- like Pretty Posin, an outdoor bar/ skatepark where there is live music and skaters every Thursday and Saturday. Or Deus, a super hip biker bar, where they have a "buy a taco, get a free tattoo" deal every Tuesday. Not to mention the night I had the pleasure of experiencing a live Indonesian reggae band, also at Deus which was the most incredible experience.

Don't miss Canggu if you're heading to Bali. You can thank me later.
